With the arrival of car GPS navigation system, getting to where you actually want to go has not at all been practical and down to earth. Global Positioning System technology in automobiles entails the usage of satellites to identify your actual setting while driving such that you conversant in how to get to your real destination and target devoid of getting lost. These days quite a lot of manufacturers are offering a variety of GPS products and it has consequently become essential to be able to settle on which one is suitable for you. Today we are going to disclose some of the important tips on how to choose the best car navigation system. Read below:

Frequency of use

When finding the perfect car navigation system, you will have to bear in mind how regularly you will be making use of it. If you do not have it in mind to use it perpetually, you can reconcile for the economical and cost effective systems that you can hook up the cigarette lighter of your automobile to use, and subsequently toss into the glove section when not in operation. Nevertheless, these smaller car navigation systems are commonly partial concerning their features and potentials.

Monitor

Next thing to bear in mind is the space accessible in your car for the GPS system monitor. This is for the reason that many car GPS navigation systems go together with a monitor used for showing maps, and which is generally installed on the control panel or dashboard or on a pedestal connected to the dashboard. You will then need to make certain that the installation of your car navigation system monitor does not slow down your car’s airing system by blocking the air vents. Further you will have to select that car navigation system whose monitor installation is not hindering the comfortable entry, exit and seating of your customers.

Multiple Destination Displays

Most probably you would like to choose a car GPS navigation system that offers you a choice of options when it comes to destination direction displays. A perfect system will illustrate you how to get to where you have to go either by giving you the address, the crossroads, the individual address book or the true location of your destination on the map.

Vocal Directions

Another impressive quality to expect a car GPS navigation system, are the verbal and graphical directions. A number of systems that present a map on the monitor generally make use of arrows to point out where to rotate and the accurate location of your car on the map concerning your proposed destination.

Point of Interest Data

A wide range of car GPS navigation systems also provide point of interest data (POI) that involves added practical information for example the sites of restaurants, gas stations, parks, ATMs, hotels, banks, airports, etc. More importantly, a specially selected system would provide synchronized updates for such point of interest data on constant basis.

Installation

When it comes to installation, it will cause your decision making process on account of car navigation complexities and lengthy installation process. Therefore if you want to get on the road on the dot, you will have to choose a simple yet cost-effective plug-in system devoid of a monitor.

impala1-720748Many auto companies are preparing to unveil (or have already unveiled) their 2011 line-up. But before anyone can get too excited about all the new vehicles and features, they have to sell their 2009 and 2010 inventory. Having 3 years worth of new models on any particular lot creates too much competition within one brand which can fuel lower prices and fewer sales. In order to clear the old inventory and improve sales of 2011 models, many auto manufacturers are instituting ‘End of Summer Sales.’

Chevrolet in particular is slashing prices on most of their 2010 inventory to accommodate the release of their 2011 vehicles. Right now customers can receive $4,000 Cash Allowance on any 2010 new Chevrolet Impala LS. Aside from cutting prices, Chevrolet is offering a reduction in finance rates. Customers can choose between the cash allowance or 0% finance for up to 72 months on a new 2010 Chevrolet Impala LS. Either choice saves the consumer thousands of dollars.

These savings do not take the individual auto dealer’s needs into consideration. Each local dealer has certain vehicles he/she desperately needs to sell in order to get the best and newest merchandise from their particular franchise. So, depending on their sales-to-date, some dealers are reducing the sticker price of certain cars, trucks and SUVs far below manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

Right now, people interested in buying new Chevy Impala cars can take advantage of Chevrolet’s cash allowance program in addition to super-low prices at their local dealership. To see new Chevy Impala car deals visit Maxie Price Chevrolet or visit Chevrolet.com to see all of their end of summer discounts.

OnStar Mobile App Technology Currently OnStar comes standard for one year in most new GM vehicles such as Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC, but people who buy their GM car, truck or SUV in 2011 will receive an additional tool that improves the usability and productivity of the already valuable OnStar technology suite of services. Starting with the 2011 General Motors  line-up, consumers will be able to download a powerful smart phone app that can . . . Read the Entire Article with Photos. oil_spill In the last few months people, especially Americans, have had to take a long look at themselves and determine if they are going to continue living a a lifestyle that relies so heavily on oil. The devastation caused by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has consumed the lives and livelihoods of everything it touches.  As the world waits for the spill to end, many realize that this is just the beginning of life-altering changes.

The answer is blindingly clear, yet so hard to accept: People must stop relying on oil as a fuel source.

In accordance with this realization, the demand for electric cars is rising so fast supply can barely keep up. A survey held by Ernst & Young states that 10% to 25% of Americans and Europeans will be purchasing an electric car within the next 2 years. “Even if only a small portion follow through on a purchase, that would be enough to sell out projected 2010 and 2011 production runs”  said Ernst & Young.

electric-car-zap Most Americans commute between 20 to 40 miles per day at a speed of 45-55 miles per hour; the challenge is to create an automobile that can accommodate these needs without using gasoline. For years there have been a few vehicles that run purely on electricity, such as the ZAP scooter and newer sedan which average about 40 mph and go up to 25 miles on one charge. Though this type of vehicle is useful for urban dwellers with short drives, it would barely have enough power for the average suburbanite’s trip to the grocery store. The newest line of electric cars due out in 2011 seem to be the answer America has been looking for.

nissan-leaf-2010 Both the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt boast competitive speeds and longer trips between recharging than their predecessors. The Nissan leaf will be able to go about 100 miles before recharging and up to 90 miles per hour. The Chevrolet Volt will travel 40 miles on electricity up to 100 miles per hour. Their are many similarities between the vehicles. They will both be able to use regular in-home outlets and larger, more powerful stations to charge. They will both have 4-door coupe, styling.  Also they will both cost about the same and be released within the next year. But there is one HUGE difference- the Leaf will run solely on electricity and the Volt will use electricity for 40 miles, then switches to gasoline until it is charged again.

chevy_volt_2010_pic Determining which is better, depends a lot one one’s circumstances and preferences. Either way, they both are the beginning to a future with less reliance on oil.

Make a difference by signing a petition that asks the U.S. Congress and Senate to introduce legislation and for the President to sign into law a bill that will help increase the use of electric cars at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/gulf-oil-spill–electric-car-petition.

opraChevy DETROIT – Today, Chevrolet joined the “No Phone Zone” campaign, created by Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios, to combat distracted driving. General Motors Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre, along with UAW employees from GM’s Lansing Delta Township assembly plant, announced Chevrolet’s support of the campaign in a taped segment during “The Oprah Winfrey Show” dedicated to the first national “No Phone Zone” Day.

The campaign is dedicated to honoring the lives lost due to distracted driving, educating the public about the dangers of distracted driving and activating people to make a difference in their communities.  As part of the campaign, drivers are encouraged to take the “No Phone Zone” pledge. The pledge, available at www.oprah.com, asks motorists to commit to:

  • Not text while driving
  • Not text while driving, and use only hands-free calling
  • Not text or use the phone while driving, and pull over to a secure location if they need to make a call

In addition to Whitacre’s appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, Chevrolet will lead an internal campaign to encourage the more than 77,000 General Motors employees in the U.S. to take the “No Phone Zone” pledge. Chevrolet will also sponsor more than 400 public service announcement (PSA) broadcasts for the “No Phone Zone” campaign. Once the PSA is finalized, it will also be available online at www.youtube.com/chevrolet.

“We are proud to help Oprah raise awareness of the risks of distracted driving,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President Chevrolet Marketing. “The ‘No Phone Zone’ campaign fits our own mission to keep Chevrolet drivers, and their loved ones, as safe as possible while on the road. That’s why every Chevrolet is designed to offer peace-of-mind, with technologies to help drivers avoid crashes, and features to protect occupants in the event of a crash.”  Read more . . .

53Corvette It all started in 1953, when the first Corvette “rolled” out of production in Flint, Michigan- An unassuming convertible was about to change the way the world dreamed.  After a few years with very little change, the first major overhaul of the Corvette occurred in 1963 when design changed to resemble the more recognizable sports car styling.  From this point on, fans fantasized not of what the Corvette was, but what it could be – and the obsession with the Corvette concept car began.

stingray1963 The original Corvette Stingray concept car was designed as a non-commercial race car. The sleek look included major changes to the body to increase aerodynamics. The hood and rear were “pinched” down to to make the car more oblong and the twin side-by-side headlights were hidden in an electrically-operated panel. All of these exciting changes influenced the design of the commercial Corvette and forever altered the expectations of the consumer.

The practice of design, outside influence, concept car creation, then redesign has been the norm since the  1963 Stingray was built. Not only has the auto industry pined over novel futuristic ideas for the Corvette, car enthusiasts, designers, artists, and gear-heads have been fascinated with conceptualizing seductive new versions of their dream car as well.

corvette-stingray-concept-m In 2009, Chevrolet introduced a modern version of the  Stingray Concept car for the 50th anniversary of the original Stingray. But there’s a twist- this one was fabricated to play the role of Sideswipe in the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and would never be available to the public. "The Corvette Stingray Concept represents both the iconic legacy and an exciting future for Corvette" states Chevrolet at a press release.

ChevroletCorvette_Z03_UgurSahin_-2 Close attention is being paid to industrial designer Ugur Sahin who has devoted his time and passion to reinterpreting the design of classic automobiles. Last year Sahin became well-known for his take on the Audi Locus and Ferrari Dino, which still remain drafts. But  once he entered the realm of the Corvette concept car his designs were accelerated into production and high acclaim. The Z03 is similar in production to the Z06 and is in development right now. Fireblade Concept Corvette

cheetah-corvette-concept-01 Another promising designer, Ivan Luccion, created a mid-engine corvette  concept car  inspired by the cheetah. And South African designer Idries Noah came up with his version of the Stingray Corvette, Gillet Vertigo, and Shelby Daytona rolled together called the Fireblade.

And it goes on and on. Each new design influences another generation of car enthusiasts, designers, artists, and/or  gear-heads to dream about what the future of Corvette will look like.

2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition

DETROIT – The first of 500 retail 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition coupes will go to the highest bidder at Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 3.

The winning bidder will also be given the unique opportunity to tour GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., home of the hand-built LS7 and LS9 engines found in the Z06 and ZR1 respectively. The winner will also have the opportunity to watch the car going down the line at the famed Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Ky.

“The Corvette Z06 Carbon will surely be an instant collectible,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President, Chevrolet Marketing.  “For that reason, we see Barrett-Jackson as the premiere venue to sell the first retail Z06 Carbon.”

The Corvette Z06 Carbon was designed as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette’s first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans.  As such, it continues the technology transfer between the production Corvette and racing.

Notable features of the Z06 Carbon include Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Michelin PS2 tires, Magnetic Ride Control and enhanced cooling. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06’s dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift.

This auction continues Chevrolet’s tradition of offering exciting cars at Barrett-Jackson. At the Scottsdale, Ariz., auction in 2008, the first retail production 2009 Corvette ZR1 sold for $1,000,000. The first retail 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was also sold for $350,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction last year. Most recently, a limited edition Corvette Z06 (number 427 of 427 produced) garnered $200,000, all of which was donated to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction runs from April 1 to April 3.
